Visian ICL | St. Louis

One exciting breakthrough in vision science has been the development of Visian ICL eye surgery. These implantable collamer lenses, sometimes referred to as “implantable contact lenses,” have made clear, natural vision possible, even for many people who have been told in the past that they are not candidates for LASIK.

These lenses are made from a biocompatible material called collamer, and they correct hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness), and astigmatism. Even people with thin corneas, high refractive error (meaning their contact or eyeglasses prescription is very strong), or steep astigmatism can often benefit from ICLs.

Hill Vision Services in Creve Coeur, MO, Lake St. Louis, MO, and Glen Carbon, IL offers Visian ICLs and Visian Toric ICLs, which are both safe, proven procedures that have been successfully used more than 1,000,000 times worldwide.

ICL Eye Surgery

Visian ICL and Visian Toric ICL procedures take only 15 to 30 minutes, yet they offer a lifetime of clear vision—without contact lenses or glasses. Hill Vision Services is proud to offer these LASIK alternatives as part of our commitment to provide our patients with the most state-of-the-art, customized solutions for vision problems.

Both Visian ICLs and Visian Toric ICLs offer long-term solutions for vision difficulties. The primary difference is that the Visian Toric ICL was developed for people with a high level of astigmatism. In some cases, it may also be a vision correction option for patients with keratoconus.

Is ICL Safe?

We take the confidence you place in us seriously. When you come to Hill Vision Services, we will conduct a full diagnostic exam to determine which, if any, of our safe, proven solutions is right for you.

Our cornea specialist, Dr. Geoffrey Hill, has received extensive training, not only with the ICL procedure, but also in considering factors that contribute to successful results. Our surgeons  never make surgical recommendations without giving careful and individual considerations to our patients’ safety and long-term results.

Visian ICLs have been proven to be safe since 1993. They have been successfully used in 63 countries—and that number is growing.

Visian ICLs have been used in Europe and Asia for more than 15 years, with a greater than 99% satisfaction rate, an astounding figure for any medical procedure. Risks are minimal, and can be found here

Like any surgery, there is no way to precisely determine how your body will react, but at Hill Vision Services, Dr. Geoffrey Hill has invested in the training and technology to minimize the possibility of unexpected results.

The Visian ICL Procedure

One of the most significant differences between Visian ICLs and LASIK is that LASIK and other LASIK alternatives require some of the cornea tissue to be removed. Visian ICL surgery leaves the cornea intact, and instead, a lens is inserted in front of your eye’s natural lens through a very small incision. This is why they are sometimes referred to as “implantable contact lenses.”

The lens is invisible, and no one will be able to notice it in your eye except your eye surgeon. You won’t even be able to feel the implanted lens.

Most, if not all, patients report that they experience no pain during the ICL procedure. The incision heals very quickly, and most people experience clear, natural vision almost immediately. You should be able to resume regular activities with only a few restrictions by the next day.

You will return for a follow-up visit a few hours after your procedure, and again the following day.

As the incision heals, vision continues to improve, and many people do not have to wear glasses or contact lenses following their Visian ICL procedure.

Long-Term Results of ICL

Visian ICL is a permanent vision correction, meaning it does not “quit working.” However, should you develop an eye disease or need to take out the implant at some point, it can be safely removed.

Keep in mind that the body’s normal aging process can still change your vision. Cataracts, presbyopia, and other eye conditions and diseases can affect your vision, independently of your lens implant.
